KANA Expands with Strategic Land Acquisition to Enhance Services in Kodiak

Kodiak, AK – May 31, 2024 – The Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA) is proud to announce a significant step in its ongoing commitment to improving services and operations across Kodiak. KANA has acquired nine lots of land between East Elementary and Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center.

These parcels come with specific usage requirements under the Bureau of Land Management, which mandate that the land be used for community-benefiting purposes such as health, education, social services, and general supports for families and children. Given KANA’s mission and the breadth of services provided, KANA is uniquely positioned to meet these requirements and develop the land to benefit the community.

“Our plan is to develop a facility that will support the well-being of children and families in Kodiak,” said Mike Pfeffer, Chief Executive Officer of KANA. “We are dedicated to creating a facility that will enhance our ability to provide essential services and support to the community. This acquisition is not about expanding into the development business but rather a strategic move to continue investing in Kodiak and the people we serve.”

This expansion is directly aligned with the 2023-2027 Strategic Plan, set forth by the Board of Directors, which emphasizes both Operations and Program Excellence and Organizational Capability.

The development of a new facility will be planned and executed with careful consideration of the community’s needs, ensuring that KANA’s services remain accessible and effective.
