Adult Employment Services provides education and training with a focus on employment for unemployed or underemployed Alaska Native/American Indians who are seeking job opportunities. Our program is designed to equip eligible participants with the necessary tools and support to enhance their employment prospects.

Through our Adult Employment Services, participants have access to a range of valuable services tailored to their needs. These services include, but are not limited to: job search assistance, resume building, job application support, career guidance and counseling, practice interviews, as well as educational and training opportunities. We also provide funding assistance specific to individual needs to help obtain or retain employment.

We offer Beneficiaries free access to computer resources to search and apply for jobs, explore educational and training opportunities, access scholarships, and utilize other vital services needed to support career development.

We understand the importance of quality child care and its role in empowering families to thrive. Through our Child Care Assistance Program, we aim to make child care more accessible to eligible households who are seeking or attending work, training, or school.

Child Care Assistance is available to Kodiak Island households with Alaska Native or American Indian children up to age 13; or up to age 18 if the child has a diagnosed developmental disability.

For Childcare Providers:

Our Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) aims to support eligible recipients in achieving and maintaining employment, accessing education, maximizing their income, and securing adequate housing. This program is specifically available to Alaska Native/American Indian individuals who reside in or near the villages of Akhiok, Karluk, Larsen Bay, Port Lions, Old Harbor, or Ouzinkie, and are facing challenges in meeting essential needs.

CSBGs are provided to address various specific needs, which may include, but are not limited to, rent, heating, utility expenses, minor home repairs or equipment, food, freight, and other essential needs. The funds awarded through this program are typically disbursed directly to the recipient’s service provider, such as landlords, heating fuel companies, or electric companies, whenever feasible.

Eligibility for the CSBG program is determined based on factors such as the applicant’s income level, expenses, and specific needs. We take these considerations into account to ensure that the assistance provided is tailored to individual circumstances.

Educational and Vocational Scholarships are available to eligible applicants for post-secondary education, vocational training, or professional development on a full or part-time basis. We also understand the importance of obtaining a high school diploma or GED certificate, and we are pleased to offer funding and assistance for individuals interested in achieving this milestone.

In addition to our general scholarships, we are proud to offer Tribal Scholarships specifically for members or descendants of the Native Village of Akhiok and the Native Village of Port Lions. These scholarships provide opportunities for individuals with strong ties to these communities to further their education and career aspirations.

Our General Assistance Program helps eligible Alaska Native or American Indian individuals and families who do not qualify for any other tribal, federal, state or other public welfare programs.

The program helps participants prepare for, gain and retain employment by expanding opportunities for job training, education, and other activities that can lead to economic self-sufficiency.

Our Supplemental Youth Employment and Training Program (SYETP) aims to provide Kodiak youth, ages 14-24, with meaningful work experiences that contribute to the development of strong communities on the island.

We believe in facilitating successful job placements with local businesses, enabling eligible youth to acquire practical skills and valuable life experiences that foster personal growth while earning up to 150 hours of paid work.

SYETP is designed to help local youth develop the expertise and proficiency necessary to thrive in today’s workforce. Our Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program provides support to parents or relatives caring for Alaska Native/American Indian children residing on Kodiak Island. The program assists with essential needs and living expenses while empowering recipients to achieve self-sufficiency. TANF offers a range of temporary assistance and support services, including employment and training, case management, financial assistance, transportation assistance, and emergency support.

We strive to help families overcome financial difficulties and attain economic stability. By providing essential resources and support, we empower families to achieve financial independence.

Our Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation (TVR) Program provides culturally-relevant services to Alaska Native/American Indian adults and youth, age 16 and above, who are facing challenges related to physical, mental, emotional, learning, or substance-abuse disabilities. Our program is designed to support individuals who experience significant barriers to employment or subsistence activities.

We understand the importance of recognizing individual strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, and informed choice. Our services are tailored to meet the unique needs of each eligible applicant. Through TVR, participants have the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to prepare for and engage in gainful employment, which can include self-employment, subsistence work, and even business ownership.
