The team offers advocacy, conducts interviews, provides medical care, court preparations and collaborative interventions for the child and non-offending family.
KANA’s Child Advocacy Center brings together KANA medical, advocacy and behavioral health professionals, the Alaska Office of Children’s Services, Alaska State Troopers, Kodiak Police Department, U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service, the Alaska District Attorney’s office and the Kodiak Women’s Resource and Crisis Center to help children and non-offending parents when there is an allegation of child maltreatment.
The collaborative approach is designed to prevent re-victimization during a child abuse investigation. KANA’s Child Advocacy Center is staffed with a director, family advocate, program specialist and Physician’s Assistant. They coordinate the team’s response for alleged child victims and their non-offending family members and advocate for the child and family.
The team works closely with village-based KANA staff to assure a child-centered response for victims in all communities.
