On behalf of Kodiak Area Native Association’s Meth and Suicide Prevention Initiative and Healthy Tomorrows, we invite you to participate in our “Explore the Rock” summer youth adventure. Explore the Rock is a summer program offered to students entering grades 6 - 12, and has a primary focus of engaging teens in weekly outdoor activities that will promote physical activity and teach valuable skills. During the course of this program, students will learn about Kodiak Island through a series of weekly nature walks, hikes, and presentations.
There is no deadline for registration, participants are welcome to start the program at any point during these 10 weeks. To register, please complete and return the following forms:

WHAT TO EXPECT
Each trip will be between five and six hours and will be led by Kodiak Area Native Association staff and adult volunteers. Students can attend as many or as few hikes as their schedule allows. In addition to the hike, guest presenters will teach skills including CPR/first aid, bear safety, survival skills, and invasive species.
It is very important that you follow these tips for each and every hike:
- Wear appropriate footwear (gym shoes or hiking shoes) No sandals or flip-flops.
- Wear warm clothes. You will NEED long pants and a jacket or hoodie.
- Bring a water bottle (full of water).
- A healthy snack such as an apple or granola bar. DO NOT bring soda, energy drinks, chips, or candy on hikes.
- Please mark all personal items with your name. KANA is not responsible for any lost or stolen property.
DROP-OFF/PICK-UP LOCATION: KANA Wellness Center - 3400 Rezanof Drive East
DROP-OFF TIME: 10am on the day of the hike. Please arrive on time to avoid missing the bus.
PICK-UP TIME: Participants will return to the KANA Wellness Center between 3pm and 4pm.
